Fun Facts

1. He is the last-born and has three sisters.
2. When he was small, his parents told him he had so many different facial expressions. And now he is a grown-up, he can see it’s beneficial to be able to display diverse expressions.
3. He was studying Environmental Engineering at Cheongju University when he decided to become an actor.
4. He served his two-year mandatory military service from May 6, 2009 to March 7, 2011 at the Defense Media Agency of the Ministry of National Defense.
5. His best friends are Kim Ji Suk and Lee Dong Wook. Besides, he is also close to Lee Dong Gun, Lee Jun Ki, Kim Jae Won, Boom, Andy, Yang Se Hyung, Dynamic Duo since the army time.
6. The friendship between Kim Ji Suk and him has lasted for more than 10 years (since about 2002). They lived together, travelled to Hongkong, Thailand… and did many things together. In their trip to Thailand, they had an experience in the police station because they were topless while riding scooters.
7. He grew close to Lee Dong Wook when they were in the army. Their friends call them Wook brothers. With the hope that Lee Jin Wook would continue to act till 60 or 70 years old, LDW gave JW the nickname ‘Lee Jin Sam’. Since JW was worried and cared about DW as well, he named his friend ‘Lee Dong Chun’. However, due to their quite similar names, LJW once jokingly said that LDW should rename in order for people not to mislead between them any more.
8. Lee Jin Wook has attended several public events with Kim Ji Suk (Audi, Aveda events…) and Lee Dong Wook (W, Gucci events …). He also appeared in magazines with KJS (Singles September 2012) and LDW (Singles November 2011 and Esquire February 2012). Whereas LJW and LDW were the 2 models of SERIES in 2011, LJW and KJS played as male leads in I Need Romance 2012. LJW and KJS also appeared in Strong Heart to support LDW’s MC debut in 2012.
9. LJW shows that he’s such a loyal friend since he attended birthday – fan meeting of many friends such as Lee Dong Wook, Kim Ji Suk, Lee Jun Ki, Kim Jae Won or concert of  Shinhwa (Andy).
10. He has unique ears which can move when he’s angry or upset.
11. He tried smoking once but he didn’t enjoy it, so that’s why he doesn’t smoke.
12. He has a low alcohol tolerance and scarcely drinks. LDW told that when they hung out together, they couldn’t drink alcohol because of LJW so they often had coffee instead.
13. He is allergic to crustaceans.
14. He enjoys cooking in real life. His forte dishes are curry and kimchi jjigae.
15. His favorite singer is Britain singer, Roo Panes. They met once at a Burberry event in Seoul, 2013.
16. Korean actresses he would like to cooperate with are Ha Ji Won, Son Ye Jin and Han Hyo Joo.
17. Chinese actors and actresses he would like to cooperate with are Tony Leung, Tang Wei and Liu Shi Shi.
18. Sometimes, he visits the Fan Café and leaves some messages there. Though he just says hello and logs out, being connected with fans like this makes him rejoice.
19. He was one of very few guesses who could drive MC Yoo Jae Suk nuts when he appeared in Family Outing in 2008.
20. He is a fan of Chinese philosophy and literature. He admires Confucius, a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history and Lu Xun, a leading figure of modern Chinese literature.
21. He really loves traveling and has traveled to many places such as Hongkong, Thailand, China, Czech… But US may be the place he has visited the most (more than three times).
22. He has an unconditionally passionate love for kids. He will hug, hold, pamper and play with them if he sees them.
23. He is a truly romantic guy that loves human and nature. He often writes letters to his friends (and ???). He even wants to make a cherry blossom way for the one he loves…
24. When he looks at a woman, he only picks the good points on her. So if her eyes are pretty, he will say “Her eyes are really pretty ~~!” or “That woman’s fingers are really pretty~”.
25. After meeting on the set of ‘Air City’ in 2007, he began dating actress Choi Ji Woo. The couple broke up in 2011.
26. In his fan meeting in 2013, he chose Lee Yeon Hee as his ideal type. Later, he also chose Suzy as his ideal type (LYH wasn’t nominated) in a radio show.
27. 2008 Olympic silver medalist in badminton Lee Kyung Won, Sistar’s Hyorin, actresses Nam Bora and Lee Yeon Doo admitted having a crush on him. Among them Lee Kyung Won and Hyorin had opportunities to meet him in person and even received hugs from him.
28. He sometimes loses his temper and gets uselessly excessively mad while witnessing wrong actions such as smoking cigarettes at the top of mountain or driving carelessly…
29. He’s an athletic man who often goes jogging around Hankang and takes part in marathon events every year.
30. He’s quite adventurous and courageous. He likes running along the narrow mountain path. He also did dangerous scenes in Nine without the stuntman.
31. He is really bad at doing impersonation.
32. When he appeared in some CFs before debut, people thought he’s a foreigner.
33. He’s a great kisser. He was chosen as one of 5 best kissers in TV dramas by High Cut magazine in 2013.
34. He has the ability to nurture the desire to consume of people around him. He explained he read a book and thought that he wouldn’t live much, but living while being happy was pretty important. So if his friends want to buy something, rather than worrying, he hopes them can enjoy the happiness this thing can give them. Because, as time passes by, you will see that there will be a lot of things you didn’t enjoy because of unnecessary worries. However, he doesn’t make you spend more that what you have, only the income that you have gained.
35. In 2011, after discharge from military, LJW came back to small screen in drama ‘Spy Meong Wol’ as an elite officer in the North Korean army, Choi Ryu. Nevertheless, ’Spy Myeong Wol’ had trouble when the main actress left the production mid way and the drama ended up in harsh criticism from public. "From an actor’s viewpoint, this was the project I wanted to forget the most. In spite of that, right now I reckon that by dint of such experience, I can understand how important the harmony and cooperation among actors and staffs are. Thanks to that I could fulfill my role in NINE completely. I was so happy to meet great crew of NINE and really want to meet staffs like them in my later projects", said LJW.
36. After playing stereotyping roles, he lay in hiding. And he met himself in the character Yoon Suk Hyun of ‘I Need Romance 2012’. Each time Suk Hyun had problems, he sneaked in his room and didn’t show up. The same to LJW. At that time, he had the feeling that the whole world confined him. Yet, when Suk Hyun stepped out of this room, LJW also grew up without any notification. He learnt too much from that character who truly was a friend he should pay gratitude.
37. He received the script of Nine in US and found that it’s was an excellent script with touching and moving story. He told his agency to accept this by all means and met up the Nine's team only three days after he came back Korea.
38. He said Park Seon Woo and his personality shared some unusual/odd traits. And like Seon Woo, he will always think first of how he can let the person he loves finds her happiness.
39. When he first met Jo Yoon Hee, she didn’t even look at him that made him quite sad. JYH said that it’s because he looked scruffy with long hair and moustache. But the next time they met up he got clean-cut and shaven and became really good-looking.
40. There weren't much NGs while filming kiss scenes in Nine, except for the first one. Lee Jin Wook and Jo Yoon Hee had to do kiss scene on the first day of filming before they became close to each other. They had a lot of troubles with this scene and even needed a male staff to guild LJW. Yet it turned out to be a really long kiss since the director just let them go on, without giving the cut sign.
41. The most unforgettable kiss scene giving him deep impression in Nine is the one in the rain at the playground.
42. In Nine’s wrap-up party, LJW & JYH wore 2 pairs of Nike shoes which are same in style, only different in size and color. To the question about dating scandal Lee Jin Wook wittily replied: "My target is to make viewers believe that we are a real couple. So receiving the question whether we date in real life or not is our success, isn't it?". About the shoes, he said "I was surprised, too. When I just came to the party, I saw a pair of sports shoes similar to mine on the shoe shelf. I bought this one because it's a new model with nice design and today is the first time I wear it. Yoon Hee also said the same thing to me".
43. In an interview after Nine, the reporter said many people wished JYH and LJW would become a real couple like Yoo In Na and Ji Hyun Woo. He said that they had many happiness cooperating with each other. If he has a relationship in the future, he would like to keep it silent.
44. When asked to choose between two female leads of I Need Romance & Nine, he said Jo Yoon Hee is bubbly and friendly while Jung Yoo Mi is shy but cute. So his ideal type may be a combination of these two.
45. When asked if he was more like Yoon Seok Hoon or Park Seon Woo, though both have strong qualities that he shares with, the character that he can possibly associate better with is possibly YSH since PSW is a type that is unlikely to find in reality.
46. Many co-stars praised him for his friendly, considerate and warming personalities. For instance, Kim Ga Young, his co-star in Spy Myung Wol said that “Jin Wook oppa has a way of making everybody feel so great about themselves. He always smiled, shared so many great stories, and always took care of us so well!”. Also, Seo Woo Jin (Nine) claimed that JW's a really good friend who often took care of other people on the set. They had to film 7-8 hours for a run and chase scene during cold weather with their legs in pain. But JW not only tried his best to fulfil this scene but also cared about Seo Woo Jin like giving WJ the heater…
47. If he has a chance to go back the past, he will use it to return to his childhood.
48. If he has a chance to meet his future self of 20 years later, he will just ask if he (the future) is happy. He would prefer not to know about the rest since if he knows, the future will change.
49. In a press conference for his movie 'Miss Granny', his co-star Kim Hyun Suk said that "If we (the movie) record 5 million viewers, I will marry Lee Jin Wook no matter he wants it or not". She made everyone burst into laughter by adding that she is serious. It ended up that movie even attracted more than 8.6 M and she said she's sorry for not being able to make it happen.
    
50. On May 19, 2014, Sports Seoul broke the news that he is currently dating actress Gong Hyo Jin, which their agencies confirmed.

2014 Lee Sang Yoon has been appointed the “Fruit of Love” Ambassador by the Community Chest of Korea, a community-based fundraising body to “raise funds for allocation to welfare centers and projects and collaborate with other established fundraising organizations.” As ambassador, Lee Sang Yoon will be involved in fundraising activities and at his appointment ceremony held at 1:00pm in Jung-gu, Seoul 25-Sept, he said “I will do my best to spread the spirit of sharing/giving.”

Lee Yo-Won was born on April 9, 1980, in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.  In 1997, during her sophomore year in high school, Lee Yo-Won applied for a modeling contest and was picked as the winner.  After the contest she debuted in the monthly fashion magazine "Figaro" (휘가로) for its November issue.  In 1998, Lee Yo-Won made her acting debut in the film "Scent of a Man".  While acting for her first movie, Lee Yo-Won sometimes tore up because staff members only applauded the other actors for their work. Then some staff members noticed her tears and mentioned she was good at tearing up.  That was the first time she heard positive words about her acting.  With her confidence building and gaining more attention from the staff members, Lee Yo-Won realized she wanted to pursue acting as a profession. 

For her second film, Lee Yo-Won played gas station attendant Galchi in the hit movie “Attack the Gas Station!” which sold 2.4 million tickets. Thanks to the popularity of that film Lee Yo-Won started to gain recognition from the public.  Lee Yo-Won then acted in several television dramas.

In 2001, Lee Yo-Won's big breakthrough came in the KBS TV drama "Blue Mist" (Pureun Angae). For the first time Lee Yo-Won played the lead character in a TV drama and the series became a big hit.  The drama itself contained a controversial (for its time) storyline involving a woman in her early 20's becoming involved romantically with a married man in his 40's.  In the same year, 2001, Lee Yo-Won acted as one of the three main characters in the critically praised indie film "Take Care of My Cat" directed by female director Jeong Jae-Eun.  The film was chosen as one of the 5 best films of 2001 by "Cine Seoul" magazine.  Lee Yo-Won mentioned in a 2009 interview with "Elle Korea" fashion magazine that "Take Care of My Cat" was her most memorable work.  Lee Yo Won also got Baeksang Award for Best Newcomer Actress by the movie Take Care of my Cat.

In 2003, at the age of 22, Lee Yo-Won made the surprising announcement that she will marry.  On January 10, 2003, Lee Yo-Won married professional golfer & businessman Park Jin-Woo.  Lee Yo-Won temporarily put her acting career on hold while she went to the U.S. with her husband to study.  Lee Yo Won accompanied her husband to get Master degree in University of San Diego while Lee Yo Won also wanted to study English in U.S.

In December 2003, Lee Yo-Won had a daughter.  In an interview with TV show "Section TV - S Diary" on MBC, Lee Yo-Won mentioned that at the time of her marriage she was tired of acting and the demands placed on her.  One week before her marriage, Lee Yo Won still had to complete her filming schedule for drama “Daemang”, she was really at her peak and busy as an actress at that time as she decided to get married.

In 2005, Lee Yo-Won made her acting comeback in the SBS drama series "Fashion 70's".  She chose the role for three reasons: because it was a historical drama, that it was directed by Lee Jae-Kyu (who previously directed popular female oriented detective drama "Damo: The Legendary Police Woman") and that it dealt with a woman's career and success rather than a pure love story.  Actually she was afraid of her comeback that people can’t accept her. She got some criticisms for her life in US that she on purpose gave birth outside Korea. She said because now she has a family, if she was mocked, her family will get the impact too. But she got big support from her husband said that “don’t really bother of what people say”.

Before taking "Fashion 70s," Lee Yo Won starred in a movie “When Romance Meets Destiny” as supporting actress, she said she likes the character and on purpose not to take as lead actress for her first comeback to entertainment.  After "Fashion 70's," Lee Yo-Won acted in various drama and movies. She acted in medical drama "Surgeon Bong Dal Hee" as the main character Bong Dal Hee who was a resident doctor, struggling to be a surgeon even she herself had heart problem of her health. The Drama again made a success in TV rating, Lee Yo Won won Three Awards for this drama : Top Female Excellent, Best Couple (with Lee Bum Soo), and Popularity Award in SBS Drama Award 2007.

Another hit was movie "May 18" which was from real story of Gwangju incident in 1980, the movie attracted millions viewers on theatres and becomes first local movie in that year which can successfully compete against Hollywood movie.  The end of 2007 until half 2008, Lee Yo Won acted in drama Bad Love (Cruel Love) with actor Kwon Sang Woo. This drama was a mellow one about love, unfortunately the drama wasn’t good in TV rating in Korea, and it said that the genre wasn’t popular at that time in Korean drama industry.

In 2009, Lee Yo-Won performed in another smash-hit television series, this time in the MBC historical drama "The Great Queen Seon Deok".  Lee Yo-Won played main character Queen Seon Deok, who possessed extraordinary intelligence and strength.  In an interview with "Star News," Lee Yo-Won stated she was tired of playing woman who were fragile and weak and eagerly took the role of Queen Seondeok because of this. At first, some people doubt about her acting as Queen Seon Deok because they just recalled her acting as fragile and teary woman in Bad Love, but the PD and director of "Queen Seon Deok" believed that Lee Yo Won deserved the role, the "Bad Love" case wasn’t wrong with Lee Yo Won’s acting skill, she was good at it, what ruined the drama was the storyline itself.  And right, Lee Yo Won successfully played the main role Queen Seon Deok, the drama become drama of the year and national drama in 2009.  She played opposite Go Hyun Jung, even though some people always wanted to compare the two of them, but Lee Yo Won humble said that Go Hyun Jung is her senior and really appreciate her acting.

In 2010, Lee Yo-Won's next film "The Recipe" was released in late October.  She appeared at the world premiere for "The Recipe" during the Pusan International Film Festival (in which AsianMediaWiki attended).  During the question and answer session Lee Yo-Won stated she chose the film, because she wanted to work with another female director due to her great experience with "Take Care of my Cat." Although she was initially reluctant to take on another role of a "fragile woman," the movie's producer Jang Jin and movie director Lee Seo-Goon convinced this would be the right role for her. 

In 2011, LYW came back the small-screen with SBS Drama “49 Days”, and once again demonstrated her true value performing two unique roles: depressed Song Yi Kyung and cheerful Shin Ji Huyn. She was one of the most important factors for the success of this drama and has gained even more popularity after that.

2012 is a productive year with her when she took the female leads in 2 movies: Suspect X and Legend Punch and joined MBC anniversary drama: Horse Doctor. In Suspect X, she played Hwa-sun who kills her abusive ex to protect her child and a brilliant mathematician decides to cover her accidental murder; while in Legend Punch, her role is the head of a tough production team and a strong career woman who has the 'legendary team' eating out of her hands. 

For MBC medical sageuk “Horse Doctor”, she took the role of Kang Ji Nyung, a very progressive woman in the Joseon era. She was the lover at the same time the helper of Baek Gwang Huyn (Jo Seung-Woo) until he became the Royal Physician. Her presence in this drama became the discussion, it was not because of her acting skills, but because the development was too concentrated on the hero that somehow wasted her talent. However, she still received much loved from audience for showing an infinite variety of performance.

After Horse Doctor finished in early 2013, she made her quick comeback to drama land in SBS's "Empire of Gold", which revolves around a power struggle over a chaebol. She played the role of female lead Choi Seo-yoon - the “empire princess,” second daughter of the country’s biggest chaebol group who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. And again, she never failed to amaze audience with her spectacular performance of a wise and icy girl in the battle with two beasts; and won the recognition from SBS with "Top 10 Stars" Award and "Top Excellence Award, Medium-Length Drama" Award. But they might not the most valuables awards for her with "Empire of Gold", because during the filming, she also picked up "gold" and got pregnant of the second baby. 

In July-25, her Management Agency made announcement that Lee Yo Won gave birth to her second daughter in May, 2014; both Mom and Baby are in good condition. Congratulation!!! :)
