Ara continues her role of Lee Ok-lim in the sequel, which depicts her high school career. Compared to her hot tempered and childish personality in middle school, she's matured now. Throughout high school, she learns about love, rivalry, friends and herself. 

 [2006/2007 - SBS] 눈꽃 / Snow Flower (as Yoo Da-mi)

As Yoo Da-mi, Ara plays a completely different character from her previous roles. Yoo Da-mi is a rich, smart and polite high school teenager. When she learns that her mother has been lying to her, her whole life, Da-mi rebels and decides to pursue a career in acting.

Young-in is a girl fresh out of college who wants to become a comic artist. Due to her father's death and his debts, she is forced to quit her dreams when she meets a lonely man who is her exact opposite. She starts falling for this man, who is mean but sweet, while learning that there is more to him than what meets the eye.

In celebration of her 20th birthday, this is a documentary following Ara around Japan as she takes her first overseas trip as an adult. Ara shops, eats and tells anecdotes about her childhood.

Ara is rediscovered through her drama comeback as a loud and bright college student with an easy going personality. This drama travels back and forth from the 90's, early 2000's and present day, following the lives of the students at Shinchon boarding house, run by Na-jung and her family. It depicts the lives of the college students as they learn to love and experience the city of Seoul.

 [2007 - Japan] 蒼き狼 地果て海尽きるまで / Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea (as Khulan)

Chosen from 40,000 contestants for the role of Mistress Khulan, this is Ara's movie debut; this movie is also reported to be one of the most expensive movies Japan has ever made. Ara plays the unrestrained and independent second wife of Genghis Khan. She holds a special place in the Mongol Empire and in Genghis's heart. 

 [2009 - Japan] 昴! スバル / Dance! Subaru (as Liz Park)

Liz Park is a Korean American ballerina who is a star pupil at the famous American Ballet Theatre in New York. Liz runs away to Tokyo out of boredom from the tedious life as a ballet student when she sees Subaru as a worthy competitor to revitalize her waning enthusiasm for ballet.

She is the "pretty bird" pole vaulter who is always in the light of the media. Her goal is to become recognized for her talents and after meeting a certain pacemaker at the Olympic track, she creates a friendship, perhaps romance, with Man-ho who helps her realize the strengths of her true talents.

Keep in mind the multiple ways of spelling Woo-Sung's name:  Kam Woo-Sung; Gam Woo-Sung; Kam Woo-Seong; Karm Woo-Seong, etc., when searching for his work.  Also, keep in mind whether your DVD player is capable of playing DVDs from the region from which you are buying the movie; whether the film has the original Korean track, (so you can hear WS's voice), and whether the subtitles are the language you need.  If you haven't bought a multi-regional DVD player, that can play discs from all over the world, you may want to look into that.  Brands like Phillips, and LG, make these machines, some are also multi-regional BluRay players, as well.

I've had the best luck with buying from Ebay and Amazon, usually from independent sellers.  Han Books no longer has copies of "Big Bang." I don't know why they still have it listed, as the film is "out of print."  You may run into this often, even at Yes Asia, since much of Woo-sung's work is not so recent.  It *is* frustrating.

Actress Kim Hye-ja took in her 51st child in Liberia, Africa, on May 5. Her latest child is an eight-month-old Liberian orphan named Kotati. As a goodwill ambassador of the non-profit Christian relief organization World Vision, Kim has traveled to war and disaster stricken countries like Ethiopia, India and Sierra Leone and sponsored children suffering from hunger and disease. She makes donations every month and visits the children whenever she is available. Where does her boundless love come from?



Creating the Image of a Traditional Mother

Kim became an actress in 1962, signing a contract with KBS while still attending Ewha Women's University. Since then, she has appeared in 90 television dramas including "A Rural Diary," "What is Love," "Two Women," "The Sea of Mother," and "Roses and Bean Sprouts." She has also appeared in 13 plays including "Shirley Valentine," as well as various movies such as "In Late Fall" and "Mayonnaise."

Particularly, Kim created the image of a virtuous and loving traditional mother while appearing in the drama "Rural Diary" for 20 years. We can recall our own affectionate and heart-warming mothers through her.



But she has not built up the image of a mother only on the screen. Kim was reborn as a genuine archetypal mother of our era by traveling through war and poverty-hit African countries and other regions and participating in relief work for 14 years.

The First Step toward Africa

Kim Hye-ja first visited Africa in the summer of 1992 after finishing the mega-hit drama "What is Love?" She had received a phone call from World Vision while preparing for a trip to Prague and Budapest with her daughter.
The relief organization told her that Korea had been a beneficiary of foreign aid and it was time for the country to help other countries in need. Persuaded by the conversation, Kim cancelled her East European trip and headed for Ethiopia. That was her first step toward participating in relief work in Africa.

When departing for the African country, she thought that it would just be a simple trip to Ethiopia. However, after arriving in the country, Kim found that the harsh reality of life there was totally different from what she expected. She realized for the first time that such a large number of people were dying from starvation. Tears ceaselessly flowed from her eyes; she constantly wept while she was in the country, even during her sleep.

Kim was so shocked by the miserable state of children dying from hunger that she prayed on the plane returning home, "My God, please don't make me go to a country like that again." She complained to God, asking why He had created Africa just to put so many people in pain and why the guiltless, innocent children were dying.

But now, Kim doesn't resent God; rather, she thanks Him for sending her to Africa. She thinks that God sent her to those countries because there is something she can do there. She decided to spend the rest of her life serving other people.

"Don't Beat Them even with Flowers"



Since the shocking encounter with the poor and wretched in Africa, Kim has met children and women in refugee camps around the globe for more than 10 years. Based on her experiences, she published a book entitled "Don't beat Them Even with Flowers" in 2004.

Kim says in her book, "If you have something to eat in the refrigerator, can put on clothes, live under a roof and have a place to sleep, you are better off than 70 percent of the people living in the world. If you have never experienced the dangers of war, imprisonment, torture or hunger, you are happier than 500 million people in the world."

On every page of the book, she appeals to the world not to turn a blind eye to the affliction facing African children.

Kim willingly donated the 62 million won (about US$62,000) earned by her book to children who were the victims of an explosion disaster in the North Korean city of Ryoingchon. She will donate all future proceeds from the book over the next 10 years to poor North and South Korean children.

While holding an autograph session in Busan after publishing the book, she received a white envelope from a man. Twenty thousand won was in the envelope, and the man told her to spend the money on relief work. Kim says with a smile, "If I had not published the book, I would not have experienced such happy moments such as this."

A Genuine Star



While participating in relief work traveling around poverty-stricken countries, Kim has acquired new habits. First, she doesn't waste any food and eats every last bit of every meal, thinking of all the children suffering from hunger. Second, when buying goods, she calculates, "How many African Children can go to school and eat for a month with this amount of money?"

Working as a goodwill ambassador of World Vision, Kim has turned into a mother figure for starving people throughout the world. Kim says, "Charity is to bestow a favor on people in need. By helping them, we feel joyful, and that's a reward in itself." It is definitely difficult for a star to be loved by the public for a long period of time. Most celebrities become forgotten over time, and the public is usually enthralled with a star for only a short period. What is the hallmark of a genuine star, then?

Audrey Hepburn, who shot to stardom after starring in the movie "Roman Holiday," retired from the showbiz industry in 1989. Until she died in 1993 at the age of 64, she played the leading role in relief work for starving African children. She is remembered as a timeless star now. If one is a genuine star, they will gleam brightly and still be remembered even after their death. That is why we can call Kim Hye-ja “the Audrey Hepburn of Korea” without hesitation.

A meaningful story can be found in Kim's book "Don't Beat Them Even With Flowers." In front of God, a person demands, "Why is there sadness and anguish in the world, even though you are present?" God answers, "That is why I sent you into the world."



Perhaps we all live in the world for just one simple reason. Kim has found her simple reason and has put her idea into action. She is truly a beautiful woman.

When Kim Ju-hyuk played the role of a stuffy assistant teacher on ``KAIST'' in 1999, he easily could have passed as an extra picked up on the set. Not only was his delivery of lines awkward, his overall performance was just plain bad, critics said. WHEN ROMANCE MEETS DESTINY. ("Gwang-shik-i dongsaeng Gwang-tae") Kim Hyeon-seok, director of YMCA Baseball Team and assistant director of The Isle, is currently directing a new romantic comedy. The story examines the different styles of dating between timid Gwang-shik (Kim Ju-hyeok of Mr Handy), who cannot tell the woman he loves that he loves her, and his younger brother Gwang-tae (Bong Tae-gyu of A Good Lawyer's Wife) who cannot settle for just loving one woman. Taking the roles of the female leads are Lee Yo-won (Take Care Of My Cat) and Kim Ah-jung (Who's Got The Tape). This movie from MK Pictures will be released on November 23.




BLUE SPARROW. ("Cheong-yeon") Sorum's director Yoon Jong-chan has started recreating the story of Korea's first woman pilot, Park Kyeong-won (1901-1933). Jang Jin-yeong (Singles) has been cast in the lead. Her love interest will be played by Kim Ju-hyeok (Singles, Mr. Handy) and Yu Min will be playing a talented, but arrogant, Japanese pilot. Filming started on March 29, 2004 in LA, Korea, Japan and China. This film has been delayed far beyond expectations, but there are plans to release it on December 15.

The presidents daughter, Yoon Jae-hee (Jeon Do-yeon) is living in Prague working as an official in the consulate under foreign affairs. Choi Sang-hyeon (Kim Joo-hyuk) is a detective who goes to Prague in order to look for his girlfriend, Hye-joo (Yoon Se-ah). Sang-hyeon who loves Hye-joo with all of his heart has been paying for Hye-joo's tuition, and was planning to marry her. However one day Hye-joo (who is in Prague) tells Sang-hyeon never to look for her again.

Sang-hyeon ends up going to Prague to find Hye-joo. Sang-hyeon meets Jae-hee and misunderstandings arrive between them. Sang-hyeon ends up thinking Jae-hee is a prostitute but later asks her to help him translate (because he only spoke Korean) when he gets into a little problem with a pick-pocketer. Coincidentally, Jae-hee's roommate is Hye-joo. Later Sang-hyeon learns that she is pregnant with another mans baby. Hye-joo tells Sang-hyeon she loves the other man because he is wealthy. Ji Young-woo (Kim Min-joon) is from a prominant family, he was Jae-hee's former boyfriend, but had left her due to his own reasons, and still harbors feelings for her.

3 months later, back in Korea, Jae-hee gets pulled over for speeding. The officer who pulled her over is Sang-hyeon...the two then form a love story.

King Gwanggaeto the Great



Lee Tae Gon transforms himself into one of Korea's greatest kings


Our very own Lee Tae Gon is Korea's (arguably) greatest king in the drama King Gwanggaeto the Great. Fans of Lee Tae Gon are in heaven watching their idol play the coveted and prestigious role of King Gwanggaeto of Koguryeo in the weekend drama, which is being shown back to back, on Saturday and Sunday. Weekends have never been more exciting for Lee Tae Gon and King Gwanggaeto the Great fans.

King Gwanggaeto the Great was originally planned to screen for eighty episodes but has now been extended to a hundred episodes. Judging by the number of enthusiastic people downloading the episodes and waiting breathlessly for the English subs, this drama is catching on among viewers of Korean dramas around the world, and deservedly so. (In Korea the drama has been rating in the late teens which are very respectable ratings for a weekend drama.)

Lee Tae Gon plays the role of Damdeok, the second son of King Iryon, a role that he seems to have been born to play. He later becomes the crown prince, and after surviving many close shaves and hairy moments, he is finally crowned king (in episode 47).

Time and again after Damdeok catches his enemies, we witness him forgiving and releasing them. Oftentimes these enemies run wild plotting further intrigues behind his back. Sometimes his magnanimity turns out to be farsighted and he is rewarded by a would-be assassin turning into a loyal aide who ends up actually saving his life. At other times a recipient of his noblesse oblige becomes an even more determined foe after his release ... which makes for many suspenseful moments in the drama, ensuring that the story continues on its exciting course.

Indeed, the unpredictability of the plot involving twists that come out of left field and the joy of watching Lee Tae Gon play the role of the great king combine to create a drama that is highly addicting. (Signs of addiction: on the day of viewing watching the clock and counting the hours until the drama starts, religiously downloading the episodes and subtitles and re-watching the episodes again and again, feeling let down after Sunday evening's episode realizing it will be another week before the next episode airs ...) 

Lee Tae Gon has already conquered Japan with his previous dramas – will he conquer the world with his latest drama Gwanggaeto the Great?

Jung So Min, born Kim Yoon Ji, is a South Korean actress who debuted in 2010 with the role of Hong Mo Ne
in the SBS drama Bad Guy led by Kim Nam Gil. She is best known for her portrayal of Oh Ha Ni, the leading
lady in the 2010 MBC drama Playful Kiss (Korean adaptation of the Japanese manga series Itazura na Kiss)
alongside Kim Hyun Joong (SS501). Before her acting debut, she has been featured in a number of music
videos and commercial films and played small parts in several films.

She studied ballet in elementary and middle school. In high school she studied Korean traditional dance
and has won many awards. She says that if she had continued to dance, she would like to have traveled to
other countries to spread Korean traditional dance. Aside from dancing, she also likes to take part in
sports like soccer and baseball and is good at physical fighting.

She took up acting classes to receive help for the emotional expressions for her dancing, but felt
that she'll have more fun acting than dancing during the first day of class. Rather than pursuing a
dancing major as originally planned, she took the exam to enter the acting major of the Korea National
University of Arts (K-Arts) and was accepted as a top student.
